Challenge yourself with the thrill of zip lining, kayaking, and skiing. Enjoy the landscapes from the water on SUP, go fishing, or spot rare birds in unique surroundings. Relax and connect with friends at the Glamping Nukui Dam Resort. Heal and detox with forest yoga and sauna, or hike to the top of mountains covered in wildflowers, including the famous oriental lily, the symbol of Aki-Ota. Take time to breathe and connect to places that inspire and transform with every season.

Entering these valleys, the first impression is lush forests covering the steep slopes—impressive and revitalizing. Some of these forests are certified as forest therapy sites, places where you can recharge and heal with the energy of the trees.

Great Outdoors and Miniature Garden

The small Japanese Garden of Yoshimizuen is a place out of time. It's only open to the public two weekends a year. The summer residence of a great lord, the place is soothing, relaxing, invigorating and inspiring. In spring, Moriao frogs, a protected species of tree frog can be found. They are considered a national heritage. In autumn, trees undergo their fascinating transformation. The breathtaking foliage paints the scenery with vivd colors of bright yellow, fiery red and deep orange, evoking a sense of wonder.

With a pace of life that is constantly accelerating in a world culture of speed, the power of now is to reconnect with our essence, to slow down and feel. We cannot think and feel at the same time. Today is the time to feel. It is a time to receive the mysteries and healing power of nature and forest.

Akiota is the place.

These deep valleys were carved out by the rushing crystal clear rivers. Akiota also has many gorges, including the famous Sandankyô Gorge, recognized as a national place of Scenic Beauty. With each step, you enter a little further into the cliffs carved out by the rushing water. Each meander reveals new scene: Singing flows, cascading tributaries, emerald water pools, passages carved out of the rock. In Aki-ota more than 300 types of moss can be found. They are sometimes soft, but all have incredible shapes. Touching these living plants you can reconnect with the earth’s magical potential, receiving far more than you might seek.
